Not sure if everywhere in London has them, but if you've ever been to Battersea, have you ever noticed the big old tall lamppost-style things that aren't actually lamp posts? There's nothing at the top of them. What are they? Are they chimneys for some mysterious underground culture? 

Hope so.

Hope there's not a simple answer and that actually it's the Aztecs (or some such ancient civilisation long assumed no longer to exist) who've relocated to Battersea. Maybe they've too found the service at Dave's Diner a bit, well, on the slide recently. Maybe they've also realised that actually the best eatery on the whole of Battersea Park Road is none other than the Star Express. Amazing breakfasts, burgers, milkshakes (served in pint glasses!) - your hero has given up fried breakfasts for Lent so they won't be seeing him for the next 6 weeks or so unfortunately.

But next time I'll pay a bit more attention to my fellow customers.
See whether any of them are looking vaguely South American.

Then it'll be mystery solved.
