Last night's show was The Weather Club, hosted by London's 17th most beautiful girl (note: Scarlett Johansson, Audrey Tautou, Winona Ryder, Bjork, Michelle Yeo, Jessica Stevenson plus 10 other gorgeous girls of whom I have posters blue tac-ed to the walls of the 'yen cave, all have London residences...).
Being a real life salaryman, I had to come straight from a busy day at work to the show. Which meant I'd got up in the morning, sleepy eyed, in my pyjamas, sat at the computer and chosen the set for the evening. In my bleary eyed state, it meant the audience were treated to 2 of the wrong versions of songs ("where are the backing vocals to When the song applies to you?" they wondered, "where are the guitars in "The Bear and The Fox?" they pondered), plus a non-existant Your Love for the encore. I could've sworn I'd selected it, but no, the Ten Yen karaoke machine was undeniably empty of said track, when I had to hypnotise the audience and run over to the sound desk to inspect what was going wrong.
So we had another go at Sea Anemone. Thank you to a lovely audience who were just rip-roaringly kind to their Sensational Singing Salaryman, who was trying to give them the best show that they deserved, but who brought shame on himself, his family and his ancestors for repeating a song again in a set.
Thank you to everyone who came, and to the gentleman at the front who became 'smoke machine technician' by holding his finger down on the 'smoke' button with real flair and imagination.
And thanks to Gem for greeting Ten Yen looking eye-boggle-ingly scrumptious in a summer flower-print dress (her, not me - I was wearing my suit. Bsshhh! Thank you very much an'goodnight! ), and handing me three magic drinks tokens. A man couldn't ask for more after a hard days work.
Soon after the show, I was whisked back to Battersea in the unofficial Yenmobile and retired to bed, where I slept a happy, exhausted sleep.
Check it out!
And finally...

...the name of the fourth checkout machine is:
I do now know, but somehow it feels like it'll break the huge air of tension that's been building over the past couple of months at timtenyen.com if I tell you here. So I won't. But you can email me and I might tell you. If you're lucky.
The Wedding Singer
Sunday, 02 July 2006
Tim Ten Yen is officially a wedding singer. Last night, a black labrador ran on stage (dressed with a handsome blue bow around it's neck), children waved, grannies tapped their feet, and a whole mess of groovers on the dance floor blinked. Thank you Paul and Melissa for inviting the world's most sensational singing salaryman to help celebrate your special day!
Competition!
Wednesday, 21 June 2006
(please read from blog entry 'Jenny' and upwards to make sense of this...)
I’m having big difficulties getting beyond 3 names for the automated checkout machines. There’s a fourth, but for some reason, as if there’s a magic circle drawn around her, she won’t serve me. I can’t even work out which one she is. Sorry for the delay with this - I’ll sort it out a.s.a.p.
In the meantime, I’ll run a competition a la the village fete “Guess the name of the teddy bear”. This one’s called “Guess the name of the automated checkout machine”.
Email
with your suggestion (only one per person). It’s 50p per entry, I’ll get the money off you next time I see you. Rather than the money go to charity, I thought it might be a nice idea if it just went to me to spend on what I like in Somerfield.
Carla

...is the name of the third robot. Her robot parents read the Guardian, they took a little time to get used to he fact their daughter was working at Somerfield. But really they're just happy that she's happy. That's all that matters in the end.
Lisa
Wednesday, 17 May 2006
The second one is named 'Lisa'. She sounds like the more earthy, salt of the earth, cup-of-tea-and-a-chat automated checkout machine.
Keep on top of the latest news from your superstar of choice.
